My practice considers a personal past using family memorabilia, specifically on my maternal side. Responding to anecdotes and physical items, the created work offers visual links, engaging with a personal history. Altering and playing with memories has led me to create new and interchangeable ways of viewing these past events.
In the late 60s my grandmother, grandfather and mother (5yrs) moved to Australia fleeing Czechoslovakia. I am interested in the circumstances surrounding their immigration and the connection to relatives that remain overseas. Allowing for my own participation as I piece together an understanding of the circumstances, the work aims to evoke the memory of the past through physical acts of recreation.
